EXCLUSIVE: Learn How To Play “The Lion’s Share”, The Price Is Right’s Newest Pricing Game

There’s a new pricing game in town—one that CBS hopes will have audiences roaring with approval.

The 54th season premiere of The Price Is Right sees the debut of a brand-new pricing game, called “The Lion’s Share.” The first new game since To The Penny and Back To ‘72 were introduced in 2022, The Lion’s Share is sponsored by BetMGM, the online sportsbook and casino. BetMGM’s parent company, MGM Resorts, is the largest casino company in the world by revenue, having made in excess of $17.2 billion in 2024.

According to a press release issued by CBS, “contestants will earn the chance to enter the Lion’s ‘wind chamber’ to pull out prizes including spectacular trips, dream cars and a cash jackpot worth up to half a million dollars”.

Exclusive to Buzzerblog courtesy of a BuzzerBlog reader, here’s a detailed rundown of The Lion’s Share:

The game features 40 numbered balls, each representing a prize or action. Among them are:

  • 5 balls labeled “$100,000”
  • 5 “Lose It All” balls
  • 30 balls with other prizes, ranging from cash and vacations to high-value items like a car or a boat.

Players begin with one pick and can earn up to four additional picks during a small prize (SP) segment, which functions similarly to games like Joker or Take Two.

In this small prize portion:

A hopper contains two numbers (e.g., 3 and 8) and an item (e.g., a toaster). Depending on how the numbers fall, players must decide which of the two possible combinations is the item’s true price. For example, if the numbers are 3 and 8, the options could be $38 or $83. If $38 is the correct price, then $83 is the false one. Contestants repeat this process four times to earn up to four additional picks.

The contestant is already positioned inside the main hopper before George reveals the prizes. They can see and hear everything as the small prize portion unfolds.

Once the pricing segment concludes, the contestant has 30 seconds to grab as many prize balls as they’ve earned, inserting them into a designated tube one at a time while a wind tunnel blows through the hopper.

After time runs out, the contestant exits the hopper. The numbers they’ve chosen light up on a display. From there, the contestant can reveal the balls in any order:

Each selected number is shown, then flipped to reveal its prize and value. After each reveal, the contestant may choose to continue or stop at any time.

The Lion’s Share is the first American pricing game to carry a game-specific sponsorship. In the 1980s and 90s, now-defunct localized versions of The Price is Right in Australia, Japan, Brazil, and the United Kingdom featured sponsored pricing games. Assuming no games have been retired in anticipation of the new season, there are now 79 pricing games in Price’s current active rotation.

The 54th season of The Price is Right premieres on Monday, September 22 on CBS, and will also be streaming on Paramount+. John Quinn was announced as showrunner last month.
