The Amazing Race Returns to CBS for 33rd Season

The production, halted due to COVID-19, will resume.

Today during the network’s virtual TCA press tour, CBS Entertainment’s Senior EVP of Programming Thom Sherman announced that The Amazing Race would return to CBS for a 33rd season. The show is currently in pre-production with a scheduled air date of the 2021-22 season.

According to Deadline, the show’s 33rd season filmed 3 episodes before having to shut down due to complications from the global COVID-19 pandemic. The 32nd season, filmed before the pandemic, premiered in October 2020.

Show co-creator Elise Doganieri told Deadline in April that one of the keys to getting the show back was mass vaccinations.

“We just need to get that mass vaccination happening. Safety is key, you don’t want to do a show and have people get sick. That’s our priority.”

The Amazing Race is one of CBS’s flagship reality competitions, premiering 20 years ago to rave reviews. It has won 10 Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.
