The Chase Season 3 Premiere LiveBuzz
Cory Anotado | On July 8, 2014
Tonight starting at 8 PM EDT, The Chase Season 3 is premiering on GSN. Come join us for a LiveBuzz blogging session!
Come back around 7:55 PM EDT to catch us LiveBuzzing the season premier!
Hopefully Christian can join my inane blathering here, what with our first-hand experience. Alex is manning Twitter. I think Bob’s probably on MySpace. We’ve got this on lockdown.
I heard the words “inane blabbering” and felt I was needed. Hey, guys. I’ll be hanging out with Cory during the season 3 premiere of The Chase. So excited to live-blog what I think is the best game show on TV right now.
Am I doing this right?
NOW IT’S A PARTY. Did you bring the stuff?
I have T.G.I. Friday’s Mozzarella Sticks.
MY MANNNNN YOU BROUGHT THE STUFF
Good Lord, what have we wrought? ANYWAY, my cable box knows me well. Sorry for potato-phone: http://www.buzzerblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/IMG_27971-1024×768.jpg
So, should we liveblog Family Feud also?
Also, I’m eating Outback® Steakhouse. No Rules. Just Right™.
Dude, I’m doing oven-fried chicken. All the yummies, none of the mess. Or less of the mess. I spilled a little bit of flour.
BREAKING: The Chase USA Season One Contestant Drops Flour
I just called the Allstate guy “a discount Denzel.” Sorry, bro.
Sounds about right.
My fiancée just discovered It Takes a Church and she cracked the hell up. “HAH ANOTHER GOD GAME.”
THE GOD GAME
Do we know any of the contestants this season?
We know Jeremy. He was in that last commercial.
THAT’S RIGHT! Oh, man, go Jeremy.
So, a bit of formatting and housekeeping. I’ll be doing play-by-play, generally indicating status and what not. So if there’s a rerun of these episodes, you can follow along with us.
Bob and Chris will be providing color commentary, with their unique insight and witty banter.
I’ll be like the fat Puerto Rican Bob Costas.
Bob Criscos, if you will.
“Real or fictional, name a hair creature.” STEVE HARVEY’S UPPER LIP
Cat’s quick rendition of The Beast
Here’s my battlestations. The proceedings start now!
GUYS. IT’S STARTING.
OMG I WAS IN THE INTRO. I’M ON THE WALL OF FAME.
“THE LARGEST POT WE’VE EVER PLAYED FOR.” I am so excited for this season!
Did you RAISE THE WALL?
Much to Alex’s chagrin, there is still no proper theme music.
Rene is position number one. He’s from Austin, TX.
He’s going to buy a car and a chicken coupe. Because he’s from Texas.
FOR THE CHICKENS
Flowers For Algernon is a terrific piece of literature.
7 for 11. $35,000 to the table.
The Chase has such a terrific set. Probably the best game show set on TV, aside from Price.
To Kill A Mockingbird was my jam.
What do you think of Rene’s breadth of knowledge?
I’m impressed. I think he has a fair shot.
Rene’s high offer: $80,000.
Rene’s low offer: $15,000.
Take the $35k.
Rene’s taking the high offer. $80,000. The Chase is on!
One glaring difference between the UK version and ours: LOTS of people going for the big money.
Yo, that zoom in shot was epic of The Beast with the $80K on the table.
Rene’s first question is about classic rock and he manages to buzz in first.
He had a couple seconds on the Beast.
Rene’s currently 2 for 2, and needs just 4 more answers to make it back with $80,000.
I still thank Brooke revealing the Beast’s answer looks more fair than him just saying “Ahhh, I said so and so, of course.”
Rene’s third question is about the flag of Nepal and he nails it. He’s currently on fire. Mark can’t do anything until Rene falters.
Am I super-smart or is this question set a bit easier than expected?
Rene needs one more right answer to bank $80,000. Can he do it?
This does seem a bit easier compared to last season.
The Beast shrugs on the last question about Spider-Man’s hyphen. (Not his colon.)
Standing O…a little much?
A perfect Chase for Rene and there’s $80,000 in the bank. Also, a fancy new animation for putting money in the bank, I think?
So, contestant number one down. What do we think so far?
That GSN promo. TOMORROW WATCH FEUD BEFORE YOU WATCH FEUD BUT SAVE ROOM FOR FEUD THAT’S TOMORROW ON THE STEVE HARVEY NETWORK
Yep, new animation it is.
Erik looks familiar. I think I’ve seen him somewhere before. I could be totally wrong, though.
WHATEVER HE AIN’T NOTHIN
Erik is from Elmhurst, NY. He’s also shit talking.
Wheels are falling off…
6 for 10 or 11. I lost count. $30,000. DALI WAS BORN IN THE USA? GO HOME.
Started out strong, then got visibly nervous. Also, can we talk about how much better Brooke gets at reading fast with every episode?
She is. I love it.
Erik’s low offer: $10,000. Erik’s median offer: $25,000. Erik’s high offer: $90,000. Big bucks throwing around.
He doesn’t deserve to go for $90k.
I love this Price is Right audience screaming.
One plus with the US set over the UK set: The live audience.
Because the honey badger don’t give a shit, son.
First question right. AWESOME RAINBOW OUTSIDE. BRB.
Double rainbow! WHAT DOES IT MEAN
TAKE A LOOK
IT’S IN A BOOK
OK, Erik is back. He got the question right. These questions are ridiculously easy in this episode.
The difficulty of the questions has dropped dramatically from the first taped episodes of Season 1 until now. Like, dramatically so. It can’t be just me.
Well, maybe it’s just me. Erik’s dropped two in a row at the finish line.
OK, this is the make or break moment for Erik. He’s got no room for error.
Definitely easier questions, holy crap. That salt one…really?
(Sorry, temporarily lost wifi. I should mention we’re under tornado warning here.)
And he’s in with $30,000. $110,000 in the pot for the Final Chase. My confidence in them during the Final Chase is low, however.
Not a very good player, to be honest. I’m not sure he’ll be much of an asset in the final.
As an aside: totally looking forward to Skin Wars.
Cat’s watching next to me, and she absolutely dislike’s Brooke’s use of the nickname “Beastie.”
Cat is Christian’s girlfriend, for those who don’t know because we forget we’re not in a personal Facebook chat group sometimes.
So, we have two players in, and they both have average knowledge on the buzzer. They’re decent at deducing answers. What are their chances in the Final Chase so far?
It’s also her birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAT.
Oh, where are my manners.
Personally, if the questions are even slightly harder during the Final Chase, they’re done.
These players are squeaking by on some easy material. No particularly strong playing so far.
HEY I WRITE FOR GEEKS WHO DRINK
Lindsay’s also from Texas and she’s a host for Geeks Who Drinks. Christian writes for Geeks Who Drink. +1 Cribs.
7 for 10 on an incredibly easy set. Terrible brain farts early on. This team is succeeding in spite of themselves.
Her knowledge is alright, but I’m not impressed with her speed. You gotta come with the quickness in this game.
Lindsay’s lower offer: $5,000. Lindsay’s median offer: $25,000. Lindsay’s high offer: $100,000. That breaks mine, Heather and Jonathan’s $180,000. Clearly, high offer.
Absolutely unnecessarily large high offer. Did we just watch a $100,000 performance?
She stays with the $35,000. Our record is safe.
Can’t blame her for the $35K.
I’m still waiting for a negative offer this season.
Again: RIDICULOUSLY easy. Only one of the choices in the last question was an actual disease, no?
These are layups. These are $4,000 Millionaire questions.
Everyone in Cincinnati just tuned out.
I think I’ve only missed one question tonight and it was about the Phantom of the Opera.
She could’ve done the 100K
The contestants’ personalities are really not coming through. I can only assume this was hacked to bits in the editing room.
Lindsay makes it back and they have a full house for the Final Chase. Will they make it? Thoughts, gentlemen?
We will have a win.
Unless the final questions are as easy as the rest of them have been, I wouldn’t bet on it.
I think Lindsay’s personality came through well.
None of the players are particularly fast.
They were nothing but average during their Cash Builders.
Only a couple of minutes away from the best final round on TV.
Chopped Dessert Round?
$145,000. Each of them gets $48,333.33. I vote that Lindsay gets the extra penny.
No buzz-in sound? At all? Really?
Aw, I still miss the names being announced.
I really miss the name voiceovers when a player buzzes in.
I like how Brooke got excited on that last answer.
Excellent final. I stand corrected.
Erik: 10 buzzes, 7 right. (70%)
Lindsay: 3 buzzes, 2 right. (66%)
Rene: 7 buzzes, 5 right. (72%)
14 correct, 17 steps to beat the Beast.
Brooke has become such an excellent speed reader, holy crap. Can’t get over it.
Is 17 enough to beat the Beast? They’ll need pushbacks, especially if questions are that easy.
Couple of pushbacks should do it. It’s going to be a CLOSE one.
They could have gotten 3 more if they stopped thinking and started passing.
A rule they don’t mention on TV: if Brooke stumbles over a question during the Beast’s section of the final, she re-reads it, and the Beast either gets it wrong on purpose or passes.
That should happen less and less as time goes on. She’s pretty great.
17 steps to catch the team. The Final Chase is on.
She sure is. Super impressed.
First opportunity for a pushback and the team falters. 1:44, 15 to catch.
Second chance for a pushback… and the team gets it! They push the Beast back from 6 to 5. 1:23, 12 to catch.
I don’t know…Beast is KILLING it.
More than half in less than a minute. Always a good sign for the Beast.
Even with another pushback, this isn’t looking too great for the team.
5 to catch, 45 seconds on the clock.
32 seconds, 4 to catch. It’s down to the wire.
Uh oh, here’s another pushback. 2 in a row. The Beast is on the ropes. 5 seconds per question.
Can the team make it three pushbacks in a row?
Oh man. This is scary.
At this very moment, I smell a victory shepherd’s pie being prepared at the Labbett household.
WITH TWO SECONDS TO GO.
It’s easy questions. If the team succeeds that well and don’t blow him away, The Beast will catch them.
$145k down the drain. Fun game tonight.
Guys, I’m so glad this show is back.
Best Final Chase so far.
What an incredible Final Chase. Definitely.
This was fun! Thanks for joining us, friends.
If this episode is any indication, they’re gunning for easier questions to get more moments like this. Which is frustrating but completely exciting.
Any final thoughts?
Before I start liveblogging MTV Catfish.
Good season opener.
